Vasl in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise, Karachi, staged A Feast in Exile, in the style of a Tableau Vivant, a popular 19th century European art form, in which artists and actors would create live versions of famous paintings.

Tableau Vivant was the outcome of a teaching residency with artists Faisal Anwar and Tazeen Qayyum, who spent spent four weeks with Fine Art students in Karachi.

An 18th century miniature painting of Kangra School, The Pandavas in Drupad’s Court, depicting the mythology of Drupadi and the 5 Pandava brothers from the epic Mahabharata, was chosen for the Tableau Vivant.

The performance was created by students and directed by Tazeen Qayyum and Faisal Anwar. The live music was specially composed by Babar Sheikh, Rizwan-ullah Khan, Jasir Abro and Aziz Kazi.
