(b. 1993, Karachi, Pakistan) Hira Khan is a visual artist from Karachi, Pakistan, living and practising in Munich since 2021. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in 2015. Khan’s art practice primarily comprises sculptural research which is led by experimental material. Khan has displayed her work at various galleries and collaborated with local and international artists.
She has been an artist in residence at the Hollows Artspace, New York, USA and is a member of the Mandarjazail Collective that focuses on South Asian art and activism through research and publications. Khan has worked as a faculty member (Department of Fine Art) at the Indus Valley School of Art (2019–2020) and as a project coordinator at the Vasl Artists’ Association (2016–2020). Additionally, she was the assistant curator of the Glockenbach Biennale (2022) and managed the social media platform curation for the “Denkraum Deutschland” initiative at the Pinakothek der Moderne (2022–2024).
Since 2024, Khan has been a board member of SAGA (Suleman Annual Grant for Arts), an initiative supporting Pakistani artists exploring unconventional themes. Her recent works have been exhibited at “Denkraum Deutschland” (2021), the Glockenbach Biennale (2022), Galerie Stoerpunkt, “mim – Raum für Kultur,” and the “Klohäuschen Biennale” (2024).
