VASLNewsletter Online Issue no. 007, January - March 2007
|
Welcome ....
With 5 years of work behind us, we are now moving towards new challenges in terms of how we engage with and facilitate art practise within our own context. 2007 celebrates 60 years of Pakistan's Independence, so this year calls for a time for reflection and dialogue. VASL is an evolving platform, where we are collaborating with new projects and proposals from within Pakistan and with artists' collectives abroad. We solicit your comments and ideas, to share this space and make it yours.
The VASL website database for contemporary artists is a successful ongoing project. It now lists 80+4 artists working in the art scene across Pakistan Artists Pages. We hope to train artists in Quetta and Peshawar intensively over the next year. (Artists please update dimensions of work and other details of your works, as this is an important aspect for professionals, publications and International curators.) Contact: vaslpages@yahoo.com
Our next Residency in March for upcoming artists- Where from - where to - Applications for young artists are open NOW! We have an International Workshop in the pipeline in Lahore for end 2007.
The monthly VASL Study Group which we have just initiated looks at critical text on Pakistani art.
A very happy 2007 from the VASL team!
Warmly,
Naiza H Khan, Adeela Suleman, Auj Khan, Mahreen Zuberi and Munawar Ali.
