VASLNewsletter Online Issue # 012, May - July 2008
|
Welcome to VASL Newsletter Online #12
We bring an Online tour of 'Desperately Seeking Paradise' - from the Pakistan Pavilion of ArtDubai 2008. This was a key event in terms of representing a slice of contemporary art from Pakistan. Dubai, as a new art center in the region, is at an interesting point in its growth. It potentially has a key role in defining an emerging dialogue between artists in this region. Contemporary art from Pakistan will certainly make its mark in the coming years!
Vasl in partnership with other Triangle workshops in the region - Khoj, Britto, Theertha, Sutra- is launching 'Six degrees of Separation'. This will be a show in five locations, marking 10 years of Triangle workshops in South Asia. Connect to our website for updates.
We encourage our readers to keep visiting our website for news and opportunities between the newsletter issues to keep up with the Vasl programs.
For artists working with film and video, we offer editing facilities at the Vasl office at reasonable rates.
'The Diasporics' have been added to the Vasl artists directory and if you are one of 'them' you are welcome to send in details for your profile at vaslpages@yahoo.com

Call for Application: AIW:A, Artists’ International Workshop: Aley, Lebanon
This will be the only constraints that participants will have to contend with: the artists will be free to invest in any theme and method they choose, with the possibility of involving other participants in the production and implementation processes. The workshop will bring
together 20-25 international artists practicing in a wide variety of media, to
work among each other, and share ideas and methods for a period of two weeks in
the mountain village of Aley. The provision of a fairly short, intensive spell
of working and a space for discussion opens up new ideas and opportunities. A
series of invited artists, speakers, performers or curators will visit to take
part. At the end of the two weeks, the workshop will host an Open Day, which
will invite in the local public, artists and cultural operators to celebrate the
developments and results of the workshop..
The workshop will provide the selected artist with full lodging and food,
