Inspiration for most of my work comes from the sufi thought and poetry that deals with ideas concerning humanity, the human as well as the collective universal spirit, the corporeal world as well as the ethereal. The visuals I use are of very simple, mundane things- like a pair of hands holding a bowl of water or people playing cards - these are painted meticulously and used as metaphors to illustrate the ideas of the sufi tradition. I use these apparently simple images like narratives.
Since 2002, my work has been on similar themes although the images I use have changed. For some time now, I have been painting the minute passion flower growing outside my kitchen window. I continue to see universal meaning in simple objects of nature which I paint in different ways to express the truth that I believe is manifest in them.
