I have always been interested in the dichotomies, multiplicities and paradoxes that can exist within a seemingly unified object /issue / phenomenon. This interest led, in past years, towards the attempt at negotiating a space that at once addressed both the sub-continental miniature and western oil painting, questioning notions of ‘purity’ and an ‘authentic traditional practice’ in these times, and of the issues of the female, identity, and the body.
These ideas have been and continue to be explored through various lenses, mediums, and inevitably, personal narratives. However they remain always in the context of the representation of the female, its implications and repercussions. The body: sexual sensual, inside, outside, public, private, metaphorical, metaphysical, corporeal, ethereal.
