Taaza Tareen VI Resident Artists' Workshop Karachi Oct 2010
One of the core activities of the Taaza Tareen local artists residency programme is to provide a space for the participating artists to engage with the local educational system. This time, Vasl collaborated with the Children's Museum for Peace & Human Rights (CMPHR) and conducted a workshop that used art practice to think about our environment. 42 art teachers from 33 schools took part in the event. Resident artists showed slides of national and international artists who have used recycled the material to make their art and the event introduced participants to the Pakistani art scene while giving them an insight into particular contemporary artist practices. In the latter part of the workshop, the art teachers worked with the artists to develop a project that related to environment. Collaboratively the artists and the teachers worked together to make a series of ambitious three dimensional structures and stop motion films.
