Vasl Single Artist Teaching Residency: Drawing Workshop and Vasl ArtShare
Institute: Karachi University
Date: Thursday, 28th January, 2016
As part of a Single Artist Teaching Residency held in January-February 2016, Vasl organized a workshop in which resident artist Suleman Aqeel Khilji, worked with students from Karachi University. Faculty members included Ms Durrya Kazi, Ms Mahreen Zuberi and Ms Raheela Abro. The objective of the workshop was to teach the students how to expand on their drawing experimentation, and the various routes one can take in approaching drawing. Suleman was able to bring about a thought process which would help students develop skills and create a discourse in the medium of drawing.
Suleman introduced the students to different materials and techniques that could be used for effective visual communication and helped them stronger understanding of materials through the process of drawing. This activity, while enabling the artists into investigating their role as artists in society, also acquainted them with each other's practices and methodologies.
Vasl ART shares introduces local and international visiting artists to different art institutions across the country. Artists present their work and the wider scope of their practice to students, art practitioners and general public, often engaging in dialogues and discussions.
