Ali Shariq Jamali is a visual artist, researcher, and educator from Pakistan. He completed his BFA at the National College of Arts, Lahore, in 2018, followed by an MA in Art and Design Studies from Beaconhouse National University, Lahore, in 2021.

Shariq’s work has been exhibited extensively at various private and public art institutions, including the site-specific The Factory Project at Chawla Industries in 2022, And the Story Goes On at Alhamra Art Gallery in 2022, Flower of a Blue Flame at Canvas Gallery (curated by Quddus Mirza) in 2021, and Karachi ArtFest at Sambara Art Gallery in 2021. He was also a researcher and part of the conceptual development team for EART: A Manifesto of Possibilities, a presentation by Rashid Rana at the Manchester International Festival in the United Kingdom. Additionally, Shariq was the Artist in Residence for the VASL Artists’ Association Taza Tareen 13 Residency in Karachi.

Shariq’s art practice interrogates the structure of reality through phenomenology, using simple yet unique analogies to explore oppositional thinking and contrast fixed concepts with new possibilities by analyzing phenomena, people, and their environments. His current research examines the fragmented, repurposed, or forgotten aspects of memory, focusing on the intersections of digital memory, cultural amnesia, and the materiality of technological mediation. Often blurring the boundaries between presence and absence, the tangible and the immaterial, his work critically investigates how memory is externalized, manipulated, and erased within material, technical, and digital systems.

Shariq is currently pursuing a PhD in Contemporary Arts under the supervision of Professor Judy Radul at the School for Contemporary Arts, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada.
