Khwab-e-Rafu: Embroidery Workshop
Vasl Artists’ Association, in collaboration with Shor and Rafunaama, recently hosted ‘Khwab-e-Rafu: Embroidery Workshop’ in Karachi.
Inviting participants from the South Asian diaspora to stitch their dreams of a healed and peaceful future, Khwab-e-Rafu drew on ‘rafu’, a traditional darning practice, using visible mending as both metaphor and method to address the growing divides between our nations.
During the workshop, participants created embroidered textile patches reflecting their ‘khwab’(dreams). These individual pieces will come together to form a collective khes, a shared textile heritage across the subcontinent.
This Karachi edition was part of a wider series of workshops leading up to the 80th anniversary of Partition in August 2026.
