Asma Ahmed Shikoh is a multidisciplinary artist and MFA candidate at the Maryland Institute College of Art (’26), holding a BFA from Pakistan. Her practice spans painting, sculpture, video, and participatory forms of documentation, with a focus on displacement, diasporic memory, and the ethical dimensions of witnessing. She approaches the archive as an active, relational structure shaped by affect, spiritual attentiveness, and the material conditions of everyday life.
Shikoh’s recent work investigates how political catastrophe enters domestic and psychological space, transforming ordinary objects into sites of testimony. Through projects such as Mending Grace, We Bear Witness, and her reflective video installations, she examines how mediated images and lived experience converge, revealing the subtle shifts through which individuals register collective trauma. Across mediums, her practice foregrounds care, presence, and the labor of repair, emphasizing the artist’s role in shaping ethical and emotionally resonant forms of contemporary archival practice.
