Hyunju Kim studied at Dankook University Korea and Visva-Bharati University India.
Kim works primarily with etching and drawing. Her magical realism splits worlds and brings different realities together. Her works tell stories that combine nature, culture, mythology, and the imagination. Travel through the diverse cultures of the world is a rich source for her inspiration and ideas.
Since graduating Kim has exhibited and undertaken residencies in countries including the UK, Egypt, India, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, China, Pakistan, Nepal, France, Serbia, Mauritius, Slovakia, and Tunisia.
Kim taught printmaking at Lalit Kala Academy Bhubaneswar, National College of Art Lahore, Megalo Print Studio Canberra, and Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art. In 2016 Kim was Artist in Residence in Léhon, France with the support of the Alfred and Trafford Klots International Program for Artists. In 2019 and she participated in the Studenica International Painting Symposium in Serbia.
In 2022 Kim’s artwork was chosen for the Beijing Winter Olympics Print Portfolio and as a finalist in the International Print Biennial at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. In 2023 she was artist in residence at Guanlan Original Printmaking Base and participated in Art Colony Sićevo. In 2024 she undertook a Bridge Guard Art Residency in Sturovo, Slovakia. She has been based in Melbourne since 2012.
