Umer Sheikh is a documentary photographer and writer based in Karachi. His practice centers around documenting impermanence, heritage architecture, street life, and the work and worlds of artists. Through photography and text, Umer explores the layers of memory, nostalgia, and urban transformation that shape the emotional and physical landscapes of the city. His work often focuses on spaces that are disappearing or overlooked, capturing moments that hold time, history, and quiet beauty.
In 2023, Umer was Highly Commended at the Photography Foundation Awards in London. He has also collaborated with Italian artist Elisa Caldana during her residency with VASL, The Falcon of Karachi, contributing to the research and visual documentation of the project.
