During the 9th of January – 14th of January 2017, the IVS Gallery, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture Sub held the event: ‘Photography in Gendai 1968, Year Zero in Contemporary Photography’ by Dr Yasufumi Nakamori held at the IVS Gallery on January 9th, 2017.

Following the success of the first faculty mentoring workshop in December 2015, the Vasl Artists’ Association and the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture organised a second workshop aimed to develop critical skills for faculty members in the field of visual arts and cultural studies. The workshop recognises cultural and visual analysis as salient in the knowledge of history and the current circumstances of not just the Pakistani society but beyond. Vasl along with the conductors, designed a week long workshop which was intended at assisting junior and mid-career faculty members in the field of art and theory. This was done in order to enhance their teaching qualities and develop their curriculums.The participants comprised of faculty members from various education sectors across Pakistan. These classes were focused on aiding the participants to develop their own modules as well as, being proficient in educating at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, equipping them with frameworks useful in furthering their individual research projects. Included in these workshops were perusal of sin theory and practice, academic exercises on addressing classroom dynamics. Dr Yasufumi Nakamori held a gripping guest lecture on photography. The seminar not only gave importance to individual studio practices, it also focused on methodological questions regarding history and theory that were proved useful for participant’s independent artistic practices in tandem to their teaching commitments.
