About
Sindhology Museum at the University of Sindh in Jamshoro is part of the Institute of Sindhology, a research institution devoted to the history, language, literature, art, and culture of Sindh. The institute began in 1962 as the Sindhi Academy and developed into a major centre for the study and documentation of the region. Its museum and art gallery extend this work by making Sindh’s material and visual culture available to students, researchers, and the public.
The museum’s collection began to take shape in the early 1970s and includes archaeological objects, pottery, coins, jewellery, arms, textiles, embroidery, leatherwork, metalwork, woodwork, photographs, and paintings. It also uses dioramas to represent different ethnic communities of Sindh and includes displays dedicated to notable Sindhi writers, scholars, educators, and public figures.
What makes the Sindhology Museum distinctive is its broad view of heritage. It does not treat Sindh only as an ancient civilisation or a collection of monuments; it also documents everyday crafts, regional dress, social traditions, music, language, and the lives of the people who have shaped the province. Alongside the Institute’s research library, archives, and publications, the museum provides a valuable starting point for understanding Sindh as a living cultural region with a deep and diverse past.
