About
Sindh Museum, also known as the Sindh Provincial Museum, is a cultural and archaeological museum in Hyderabad. Established in 1971, it was created to collect, preserve, study, and exhibit material related to the history and heritage of Sindh. Its galleries cover a wide span of time, from the Indus Valley Civilisation to the dynasties and communities that have shaped the province in later centuries.
The museum’s collection includes archaeological finds, pottery, coins, manuscripts, textiles, weapons, jewellery, paintings, and objects of everyday use. Displays introduce visitors to the Indus Valley Civilisation as well as the Soomra, Samma, Kalhora, and Talpur periods. Rare manuscripts in Arabic and other languages add another important dimension, connecting the museum’s archaeological and historical material to Sindh’s literary and religious traditions.
An open-air section presents aspects of traditional village life through reconstructed settings, tools, crafts, and representations of local homes. This makes the museum useful not only for tracing rulers and historical periods, but also for understanding how people lived, worked, dressed, and made things. Sindh Museum offers a broad introduction to the region’s material culture and the continuity between its ancient past and living traditions.
