The DISTERRA exhibition presents works of art, film and photography by artists working in Pakistan, in particular Karachi. It centres around three connected themes: armed conflicts and disappearances of land, settlements and communities; environmental crisis and climate change; displacement and migration. These themes highlight the project of making visible what has been rendered invisible; a different way of seeing.

When people come together, as we do, another visible order may emerge. Appearances become volatile. To go in close is to see the image of something that has disappeared. Putting together unconnected situations, images and thoughts, changes their meaning. It allows us to see one context through the overlay of another. This is important when regimes of forgetting prevail.
